Icíar Bollaín was born in Madrid on 12 June 1967 and made her debut at only 15 yo as an actress in El sur (1983) by Victor Erice. After that movie many other roles until Land and Freedom by Ken Loach in 1994. The following year she made her directorial debut with the feature movie Hola, ¿estás sola? (1995) with whom she obtained, in addition to various awards, the prize at the Semana Internacional de Cine de Valladolid and the nomination for the Goya Award, both as best debut director. In 1999 she received the award for best film at the International Critics' Week at the 52nd Cannes Film Festival with her second film Flores de otro mundo, which also gave her a new nomination for the Goya Award for Best Original Screenplay. But the definitive statement comes a few years later with Take my eyes (2003) which is worth 7 Goya Awards, including best film and best director.
